Birders!
Well, I did it, and I'm glad. After Todd Day's email on the Brown Booby, I
set forth
on a 5-hour journey, arriving at the site about 7:00 PM.- a long, miserable
trip with
every road jammed with traffic, fender-banders, etc. I thought I'd probably
missed
the bird since the sun was setting and the bird may well have gone to roost.
HOWEVER!! I did see it! It was feeding when I first arrived, diving after
fish,
successfully at least once, and it then returned to a piling/post thing and
sat there, keeping company with a rather good number of Brown Pelicans and a
couple of DC Cormorants. I was there about 20 minutes. No other birders were
thereat that time so there
was no one to high-five or whatever. So I went on home - a long, long day.
Traffic
was marginally better coming home than going down, for which I shall be
eternally
grateful!
Directions as given by Todd are very good. I didn't notice the road/street
name,
but the officers' club/Cape Henry Inn is signposted quite clearly. When you
drive
in, the boardwalk out to the Tiki Bar is off to the right. TAKE YOUR SCOPE.
Do hope the bird stays for a good while so lots of you can admire it!
