Headed to Augusta County with raptors being primary target species for
upcoming program on Raptors of Virginia.

Along Bell's Lane Red-tailed numbers were impressive (29+).  Soaring high
over Woodrow Wilson Parkway was a kettle of at least 8 Red-tails and 4 Black
Vulture.  Further off in the distance were at least 6 Red-tails that seemed
to moving northward.  In the trees in fields adjacent to Woodrow Wilson
Parkway up from Bell's Lane I counted at least 9, including one in a nest at
same time the 8 were soaring overhead.  Back on west side of Bell's Lane
there were 6 more (4 adults and 2 immatures).   Also noted at least 5 Tree
Swallow flying around the fields.  The target Cooper's and Sharp-shinned
were not observed today.   Canada Geese (several hundred) were off in
distant fields.  Cursory scan did not yield any Cackling.

Along Livick Rd. near Swoope I stirred up a Cooper's but was unable to
photograph.  Ditto for the target adult male Northern Harrier.  Shortly
afterwards the adult female was observed nearby.  Speculation is whether
this is same adult pair observed throughout the spring and summer months
last year, raising further speculation if they are breeding in the area.

Late afternoon at Lake Shenandoah on Rt. 806 in Swoope, there was a good
array of waterfowl.  I observed the following:

Redhead - 2 (1 male, 1 female)
Hooded Merganser - 8 (5 males, 3 female)
Ring-necked Duck - 8
Horned Grebe - 1 (swimming with the scaup)
Scaup species - 9 (really felt these were Lesser vs Greater)
Wood Duck (9) - (6 males, 3 females)
Blue-winged Teal - (7)
Green-winged Teal - 1 pair
Mallard - over 50
