This morning took a 5.8 mile walk around our block here on the western
edge of St. Louis VA, 5 miles west of Middleburg.
Highlights included finding a nesting red-shouldered hawk and FOY
chimney swift, yellow-throated vireo, grasshopper sparrow, La
waterthrush, common yellowthroat and Baltimore oriole.
In all, 58 species. Only 5 warbler species; three flycatchers and no
migrant thrushes. Swallow numbers-- species and individuals here-- seem
very low.
Most interesting bird; a singing white-crowned sparrow in a place where
they've spent every winter for past 5 years.
