Happy New year to All
While helping John Porter do The Witch duck sector of the Little
Creek Christmas count, had a fly over of a Female Anhinga. The bird was see
crossing Witch Duck near Saw Pen. Also seen were 4 Male Wood Ducks 1 Male
Northern Pintail and 5 Pied-billed Grebes. We were standing on the side of
Witch Duck Rd where it crossed Buchannan creek My guess is Anhinga will stay in
area for a while. One was found in this area a few years back on Christmas
count by David Clark, and it stayed around for a few weeks.
No knowing the area we had to work hard for the birds we found,
we made a lot of no bird stops. We did find a great place at the end of
Lynnfield DR. off of Little Neck Rd. There was a nice Lady who let us go out on
her dock. The highlight here was 2 Late Ospreys and 12 Oyster Catchers. In all
we had 52 species and 33 were seen from this dock. Only shore birds of the day
were seen here Bl. Bel. Plover, S.B. Dowitchers, G-Yellowlegs Dunlin and large
#s of Hooded and Red Breasted Merganser.
