Gentle Readers,
Two American Bittern and gobs (18) of Green Heron were seen when Mary Floyd and
Gene Keefe led a group of thirteen other birders this morning, August 9, 2004,
at Huntley Meadows Park. The weather was near perfect -- sunny skies , warm,
with calm winds. The Fall migration continues; there were eight Least
Sandpipers doing their synchronized flying routines over the Central Pond. The
Red-winged Blackbirds have largely disappeared presumably to seek grain in the
farmer's fields and wild rice along the banks of Virginia's streams.
