I spent about 90 minutes at Algonkian Park in Loudoun County today. The
Potomac was largely frozen over there, but in one open spot I counted:
Black Duck -- 40+
Mallard -- 2
Bufflehead -- 50+
Hooded Merganser -- 4
Ruddy Duck -- 1
Pied-billed Grebe -- 1
Great Blue Heron -- 1
Red-tailed Hawk -- 1
Belted Kingfisher -- 1
In the park itself I saw:
Red-shouldered Hawk -- 1
Red-bellied Woodpecker -- 2
Yellow-bellied Sapsucker -- 1
Downy Woodpecker -- 3+
Pileated Woodpecker -- 1
Carolina Chickadee -- 20+
Tufted Titmouse -- 20+
White-breasted Nuthatch -- 3 +
Brown Creeper -- 1
Golden-crowned Kinglet -- 1
European Starling -- 100+
Song Sparrow -- 3
White-throated Sparrow -- 30+
Dark-eyed Junco -- 30+
Northern Cardinal -- 5+
