Birders,
2 birders joined me for a nice fall bird walk at Sky
Meadows today, sponsored by the Audubon Society of
Northern Virginia (formerly Fairfax Audubon). The
windy conditions seemed to keep some birds hidden.
Most interesting species were 2 AMERICAN COOT diving
and swimming in the entrance road pond, a possible
first park record. Also enjoyed were 9 sparrow
species and long looks at RED-HEADED WOODPECKERS.
We covered much less ground than on yesterday's walk,
birding from the Visitor Center area to the group
campground and back. Also, I briefly birded the
fishing pond area before the walk.
