Teen Birding
Saturday, March 11; 4:00-9:00PM
This month's Northern Virginia Teen Bird Club field trip is from 4:00 to
9:00 PM on Saturday March 11. We will meet at Flint Hill School at 3320
Jermantown Rd in Oakton (Fairfax County) and we will go to Huntley
Meadows Park where we will look for ducks, woodcock courtship displays
at dusk, and owls after dark. The warm weather may
bring out a cacophony of frogs too! Please contact Mr. Atwood (see
below) if you are interested or if you need directions.
The Northern Virginia Teen Bird Club is sponsored by Flint Hill School

Birds and Geology of Great Falls Park
Saturday, March 18, 7:30-11:00 AM
Join Jay Eisenberg to enjoy the birds and geology of this beautiful
gorge of the Potomac River. Stroll along the gorge and spot birds while
learning basic geology and how Great Falls was formed.
Getting there: Virginia-side of Great Falls. Take Beltway exit 44 (Route
193). Head west on Route 193 toward Great Falls for 4.2 miles to the
traffic light. Turn right onto Old Dominion Road and continue to the
Visitor Center parking lot.
Owl Prowl at Pohick Bay Regional Park
Saturday, March 18, 4:00-7:00 PM
Join Lara Bainbridge in search of Screech Owls, a hoot from a Barred Owl
is not out of the question too! We will be outdoors the entire walk, so
dress for the weather, be prepared for some parts of the trail to be
steep and rocky. Keep in mind it will be getting dark by the time we're
done... Please meet at the trailhead for the BLUE TRAIL all the way at
the far end of the boat parking lot.
Getting there: To reach Pohick Bay, take I-95 south of the Beltway, exit
at Lorton. Turn left on Lorton Rd., right on Armistead Rd., right on Rt.
1 and left on Gunston Rd. Continue 1 mile to golf course on left; 3
miles to main park.
March Bird Walk in Reston
Sunday, March 19, 7:30-10:30 AM
Join Andy Rabin to bird along the Buttermilk Creek Nature Trail. Andy,
an annual participant in the World Series of Birding, has great eyes and
ears for finding birds. Register by March 16 with Reston Association
Member Services, 703-435-6530.
Getting there: From the corner of Baron Cameron Avenue and Reston
Parkway, go east on Baron Cameron, turn right onto Wiehle, turn left
onto North Shore Drive, and continue to Ring Road. Park at Uplands Pool,
11032 Ring Road.
