Hello all
This morning at 8am 16 members from the Augusta & Charlottesville bird clubs
met at the Augusta Medical Center in Fishersville to go out & try to find such
birds as Lapland Longspur's , Barn Owl , Am. Pipit to just name a few . The
three that I just mentioned we did not see . Anyway we did manage to get 34
species of birds in a'' warm'' temp. of 26 degrees . When we started out the
temp. was about 18 degrees . The best birds for the day were a Merlin on Rt .
652 & a Red -- Shouldered Hawk on the back side of the Little Debbie's plant
where the little stream & bridge are . After finishing up at Quillin's we all
decided to go back to Rt. 652 to try & refind the group of Horned Larks , with
no success but before leaving everyone got great views of 3 to 4 COYOTE'S !
Before I list the birds I want to let the group know that when we left , we
headed out towards Rt . 608 North . On the way we dropped by McCune's Pond but
it was mostly frozen , so we headed out on Rt 795 & just before we got to the
intersection of Rts. 795 & 608 ( near Viette's Garden Center ) a bird flew up &
almost hit the truck . This bird turned out to be a LOGGERHEAD SHRIKE . Then we
traveled to Bells Lane to check out things there & among the 700 + Canada Geese
was a lone white goose . The ROSS'S GOOSE has returned to Bells Lane . Now for
the list of birds seen on our field trip today .
