On Saturday (10/16), I spent 3 hours walking the hike/bike trail at Huntley.
Looks like the big front on Friday brought in a lot of late migrants
(although I wasn't there on Friday for a true comparison). Most notable were 8
species of sparrow in the Woodcock Meadow, several of which were first of the
season
for me:
80 white-throats
20 song
10 swamp
2 junco
1 white-crowned (immature)
1 field
1 chipping
2 towhee
Other noteworthy birds
1 great egret
19 greater yellowlegs
1 lesser yellowlegs
21 swifts
5 flickers
3 phoebes
30 jays (but none overhead)
20 ruby-crowned kinglets
2 golden-crowned kinglets
10 yellow-rumps
8 palms (4 yellow)
3 yellowthroats
1 black-throated-green (my latest BTG ever)
1 indigo bunting
1500 grackles (or so, many large flocks)
I came back, and found juncos and white-throats at my feeders for the first
time this season.
This morning (10/17), White Oaks Park had my first sapsucker and winter wren
of the season, in addition to 2 phoebes and many whitethroats.
