[va-bird] 5/24/03 - No phalarope at Huntley, but least bittern, ibis, nighthawks...

I was at Huntley this morning from 6am to 7:30 and was not able to turn
up the phalarope. I did have a couple of other great birds, however.
First, a spectacular display of nighthawks feeding on the wing low over
the main marsh and boardwalks. There must have been between 8 and 10 of
them, sometimes coming to within 15 feet of me.
The other goodies were an adult female least bittern that I flushed from
a clump of thrush just adjacent to the boardwalk. Only the second I've
ever seen at Huntley. Lastly, a group of 3 glossy ibis were feeding in
the marsh.
I expect the phalarope was there somewhere, but I just didn't have the
time to spend this morning waiting for it. I'd be interested in hearing
if it continues to be seen over the weekend...
