At about 1pm today in our side yard in Herndon, I first noticed much
excitement among several crows. When I cracked open the door to investigate I
realized there were 5 crows mobbing a large TV that was trying to cling,
woodpecker style, with much flapping, to our large old hollow oak. The oak is
dead
having been hit by lightening twice. The TV seemed to be trying to enter or
check out the long narrow opening in the side of the tree and was 10 - 15 feet
off the ground. Within 30 seconds all 6 flew off.
What puzzled me was the fact that all of this activity was carried out in
complete silence. Until today I don't think I have ever seen 2 or more crows
do
anything without a lot of noise, or at least chatter.
The TV was a new yard bird here not counting flyovers.
