This morning the three now expected thrushes at White Oaks were joined by a
late HERMIT THRUSH in my yard. Otherwise, few migrants: HOODED, BTB, a few
RUMPS and a TANAGER.
Babies 1: my daughter an I discovered a very recently fledged largish
something in the azaleas near our bird feeder. A few minutes later the mystery
was
solved as our resident female towhee went berserk chasing away a jay and a
squirrel. She was relentless. Afterwoods, she went to our feeder several
times,
and appeared to be taking seeds to feed the babe. I had thought that such a
youngster would only be fed insects for a while.
Babies 2: I observed what appeared to be recently fledged tree swallows this
weekend, so be careful with brown swallows.
Babies 3: Two weeks ago Jim Mathews observed what appeared to be a fledgling
cowbird flocking with some adults begging. Observation: he seemed to be
missing the whole cowbird parental care thing. Question: who fledged him so
early
in the season? A really early towhee? Carolina wren? House finch?

P.S. What does everyone think about capitalizing bird name? It tired me out
after one paragraph.
