Participants of the Monday Morning Birdwalk at Huntley Meadows enjoyed a
spectacular morning weather-wise and terrific birds as well.  While
previously reported as being present in the park some birds were seasonal
firsts for the birdwalk, including a single TREE SWALLOW (thanks Marianne),
3 EASTERN PHOEBES, and a single OSPREY.  We had also enjoyed great looks at
snipe, with one hanging out in direct sun not 30 feet from the boardwalk.
Many species were in full song, or at least getting warmed up.  Along with
drumming woodpeckers and "courting" waterfowl, the hormones were definitely
flowing...

The usual, plus the following:

green-winged teal - 40+
black duck - 2
gadwall - 2
hooded mergansers - 8-10 (eggs have already been found in wood duck boxes in
the park)
snipe - 15+
killdeer - 2
cooper's hawk (several votes for sharp-shin as well)
OSPREY - 1
field sparrow - 1
eastern towhee - 1 (or 2?)
fox sparrow - 2
rusty blackbirds - several seen hanging around the feeders
yellow-bellied sapsucker - 1 (thanks to Paula)
yellow-rumps - 4
TREE SWALLOW - 1
PHOEBE - 3
hairy woodpecker - 1

Good Birding,
