VA Birders,
The year is winding down and while we may have a few more inputs to the
comp list from CBCs, I think we're just about done for 2004. We stand
at 360 of 446 possible species (80.7%) with one of those being a new
addition to the list. Congrats to Jon and BJ Little for finding the
Mountain Bluebird! Several of the sightings currently on the list still
have to be reviewed by VARCOM so the numbers might change slightly.
Here's hoping somebody finds something else for the list before the end
of the year.
I had fun keeping the list so I plan to do it again next year. The
first few weeks will be a frenzy so I'll just try to glean sightings off
VA Birds. Those of you who have CBCs in January, I'd appreciate knowing
about the species you get, especially anything unusal. In addition, I'm
going to keep a similar list for Fauquier County and post it on the same
website. I welcome lists for other counties if some of you out there
would like to keep one and I am happy to post them on my website with
one stipulation. I'll send you the template and you enter the sightings
yourself. Then just e-mail me the template with the new changes each
time there is an addition so all I have to do is transfer it to the
website. I would love to keep track of several counties myself but I
simply don't have the time.
I'm also hoping to add a page to my website for posting people's VA
totals and year lists. Hopefully I'll get that up in January and then
I'll request input from those who want to post their lists.
I hope everyone has a very merry Christmas and a great start to the new
year.
Sue
