<USS Eagle> Station Research and Rescue - JL

After beaming over to the station, Arrea looked around and shook her head.
"An' he'e I thaugh' the ou'side looked bad..." Taking a few steps, she would
begin to follow Ratchet in order to help where she could. "Ye... wan' me tae
s'ar' lookin' fer other's, Sir? Leas' those tha' s'ill be ali'e?"

Immediatly on materialization she pulled out her tricorder, started to scan
about for life signs. "How much" A thought coming suddenly to her, a question
she should have asked sooner but in all the excitement had forgotten.
"medical training do you have?"

"I've me counselin' degree... bu' am re'urnin' fer sume classes time tae
time... tha's why I've been gone..." Slowly pulls out her own tridcorder and
sets it up before beginning to scan in the other direction. "Sae... abou' two
munth's worth..."

"Hmmmm" looking thoughtful, a faint smile touched her features. She suddenly
gestured ahead of them. "Why not then you show me what you have learnt so
far and if you ever need help with your studies you do know where to find me."

Turning around to look at her, she would smile and nod slightly, "Thank ye,
Sir." Then very slowly she would move ahead of them and watching both
Tricorder and her steps, she would make her way to the very first person.
"Though.... I think I should tell ye naue... I'm naugh' allowed tae work on
real people
 ye'..."

"Don't worry. I will be there the entire time. I am giving you permission."
Starting to walk with her, her eyes on her own tricorder. She so hated the
EVA suits. They were so bulking and combersome and they made her feel so fat.
Reaching the first injured person, she would bite her lower lip as she began
to scan them. "In'ernal bleedin'... ffra'ure o' the righ' leg...." pauses...
"He's gaein' intae shock!" And that was one thing she didn't know how to
deal with yet. Backing away slightly, she stumbled as she reached for a medkit.

"Very good" Ratchet nodded as she studied her own readings. From her medical
kit she dug out a hypospray and several drugs. "I am only going to stabilize
him then have him beamed over to the Eagle sickbay. The EMH there can handle
the surgery. We just need to get these people off here as soon as possible."
A pause as she set the hypospray for the first dosage then she started to
explain everything she did as she did it. It was not the best of explanations
as Ratchet was also trying to move fast but she did he best considering the
circumstances. Ratchet also hadn;t been a doctor very long, having started her
time aboard the Eagle as the science officer. Training was something still
very new to her.

Nodding as she listened to her every word, she began to clean up the medkit
mess though her eyes stayed upon the patient. Once everything had been done
she stands slowly. "Sae...we jus' acess, s'abalize... an' send o'er fer the
time bein'?"

"Yes" Ratchet nodded. "Our primary priority is getting these people to
safety." She took a moment to contact the ship to have the patient beamed
directly
to sickbay. "Little good it will do him if we operate, get the internal
bleeding stopped then the station looses atmostphere." A faint smile. "Also
there
are just too many people at the moment for us to deal with them all. Once we
get everyone stable and on the Eagle we can then deal with each one in turn
depending on their condition."

Nodding slightly, she would watch as the person was beamed over before
starting to look for the next person. Walking along she would locate three
people
in the same area and shake her head slowly. "Three dead, jus' gae on?" Not
knowing if they were to take the dead and give them a proper burial.

Ratchet sighed, shook her head sadly at the sight of the dead. "Yeah I am
afraid so" she said guessing at the other officers concerns. "We need to
concentrate on the living at the moment. The dead we can just come back for
later.
Nothing we can do here." She sighed again. Death. Her worst enemy. She fought
it all the time. It always bothered her when it claimed another victim.

Nodding once again, Arrea slowly moved pasted the bodies. Almost an hour
later and at least twenty alive with another fifteen dead... she would shake
her head and sigh. "An' I thaugh' ye had an easy job..."

Ratchet could not help chuckling at this. "I wish I did" she said, a
bittersweet smiling coming to her face. "It only seems like that because when
things
are slow, things are really slow for us but I think there is a saying - when
it rain it pours? Thats what its like in sickbay." She looked out at the
station, at the bodies left behind, shook her head before turning back to the
counselor again, smiling faintly. "I really must admit though I always thought
you had the easy job?"
Here she would laugh, still looking for another body...if one was still left
alive. "Sume'imes....bu' nae always... wai'.... I think I found one.... a
deck lower bu' they're s'ill ali'e...." Starting to lead the way, she would
kinda pick up her pace a bit more turning her slow walk into a run. Time was
running short for them, she already knew that.

She blinked startled as Arrea suddenly ran past her not sure exactly why
then suddenly her tricorder picked up the readings as well and she knew then
the
reason for haste. It wasnt easy running in the suit. Training or not the
thing was heavy and bulky and just plain annoying. "Days like these I wish I
had
more doctors" she muttered under her breath, her medical kit slapping
against her side as she forced herself to run.
Finding a way to get to the lower level, she would skid to a stop and fall
on her butt. So she wasn't completely used to the suits but at least her mind
had pulled the rest of her body away from the weight long enough to run.
Reaching down with her hand to begin the decent, her eyes suddenly went wide
and
within a split second it was as if she had slipped back in time to see the
total destruction of the station. Cries filled her mind but when that split
second was over with, she found herself continuing to climb down as if nothing
had happened.

"Hey you okay?" Ratchet called after her, following her, meaning her fall.
"Won't do you any good if you get injured to." But she said this kindly, not
meaning to hurt any feelings or anything.

"Aye... I'm fine. I jus' slipped is all..." Her words slightly distant as
she struggled downward. Once she had reached the other floor, she would look
up
and make sure Ratchet was doing ok on the climb down. Her expression was the
same as it had been before, but her eyes showed a bit of distraction.

"Good thing these things have total environmental control"
She allowed herself to drop the last few rungs on the ladder then made
several adjustments on her suit. "I may be Vulcan but that does not mean I
like
the heat all that much." A smile towards Arrea. She looked again, tilted her
head. "Just becareful okay. I really appreciate the help and" another smile.
"The company. It can be kind of creepy wondering this station with all these
bodies and all."

Arrea would chuckle softly, though the chuckle lacked a bit of life. "Yer
welcome, Sir..." Then turning slowly, she began to look for the body again.

"There" Ratchet suddenly pointed towards an office. She had removed her
tricorder and had started her scanning when she noticed the hand and it's
faint
movement. "You see?" She started towards the office, cursed softly when the
door would not budge. It was locked and it would take her several minutes to
plug in her medical override to get it open.

Moving over towards the door and looks at Ratchet. Bitting her lower lip
slightly, she hesitated but only a moment before jumping into the air and
kicking the door with all her might at the lock. Two seconds later, the door
was
open and she looked over at her. "Da' taugh' me..."

Ratchet blinked, gaped in utter and total shock at this. "I thought Vulcans
were strong" she managed to get out, still staring at the open door. "How did
you . . . umm that was well . . " eyes still staring at the open door.

"Injured person...?" She waved at the person laying on the floor. "An' like
I said...me Da' taugh' me."

Ratchet nodded, still overwhelmed by that. "Yes injured person" obviosly
still distracted, she moved to the person's side and started to scan him.
"Think
you can teach me that some time?"

"Nae problem... " Then moves to rest slightly against the wall. The moment
her hand touched the wall, the image of the wave destroying the station once
again passed through her mind. Her face froze in shock...her words pausing in
mid sentance for nearly three seconds this time. But within those three
seconds felt like an eternatey for her.

"He's a live" Ratchet frowned, not noticing, her attention focused on the
patient. "But barely. I will try to get him . . stable. . . " more distracted
as she started to treat him, injecting him with several injections, working to
keep him stable for the beam over to the Eagle. "I am going to have so much
work when we get back!"

Blinking she would turn to look at Ratchet as she pulled away from the wall.
"Aye... work...." She would reply softly as she watched her work.

"You okay?" Ratchet stood the moment the patient had been beamed back to the
Eagle, curious and a little concerned. "You sound . . . " tilting her head
slightly in that Vulcanoid universal look of curiosity. "Distracted."

Blinking a few more times she would shake her head. "I think.... somethin'
may be wron'... withe me suit..."

Ratchet suddenly looked worried. She started to scan Arrea's suit. "If there
is something wrong you may have to return to the ship. I mean the
atmostphere isnt all bad here but I don't want to risk it." Still scannng the
suit.

Her suit would be absolutely fine. Nothing wrong with it in the slightest.
Her eyes slowly looked about her mind unsure that what she was seeing were
true.

"Your suit is fine" She frowned, not sure. It would have been easier if it
had been the suit. Something concrete. "You sure your okay?"

As she was about to say something, she would stop as a call came in from the
Eagle, saying it was time to pull back. Shaking her head slightly she waited
for the beam out and the return to the ship.

On materialization, Ratchet quickly removed her helmet glad to be rid of it
before turning to Arrea. I am on my way to sickbay but first" slight frown.
"Are you sure you are okay? I dont want to leave you then get a call you need
help." A faint smile again, trying to ease her and make her feel comfortable.

Once back on the ship, she slipped to her knees and removed her helmet
gasping for air. "I...I think the hea'.... jus' go' tae me a bi'...." A few
beads
a sweat upon her brow. "I... I think I'm jus' gaein' tae ge' this thin'
off...take a quick shower then mo'e ontae the bridge...." Pausing a moment,
she
forced herself to stand. "Ifen.... I need tae..... I'll...drop by
la'er...alrigh'?"

"Sure. No problem" She looked once about the transporter room, sighed tired
but clearly glad to be back to the Eagle. "Well I need to get back to the
Sickbay" she smiled. "Thank you again for the assist. It was greatly
appreciated."

Nodding slightly, she turned and left the TR and returned to her quarters to
 change.
