ON
Lukas sat down on the comfortable sofa next to the view port in his
ready room. He had dismissed the entire bridge crew with orders to go
get some sleep. His crew had performed admirably and now deserved a
good night's sleep, or at least eight hours worth, as it was now 06:00
hours.
Lukas, himself, had opted to retire to his ready room. He had left
specific instructions with Lt. Borek, his third shift duty officer, to
notify him the minute anything unusual happened. Napping in the ready
room would allow him to be on the bridge right away if the Orions
should reappear.
Lukas laid back on the sofa. Out the view port, he could see the
research station. As soon as the crew was rested, he would have an
away team go back and find out what they could. He also wanted to go
pro-active against the Orions.
They had took him and his crew by surprise. His crew could very easily
have come to the same fate as the crew of the research station. Well,
Lukas was certain it would not be easy. Never the less, the Orions had
to pay. All those lives on that station.
Lukas turned his gaze to the small table in front of the sofa. In
early Earth days, it had been referred to as a "Coffee table." Funny
how some traditions never die. On the table was a small rectangular
box. Lukas pushed a button on the side of the box. Holo images of
April and the kids appeared. Lukas had to laugh as the twins tackled
Luna, and her squeals of protest. April's image just gazed down at the
pile of kids and looked back to the holo-imager with a look of "what
are you going to do?" Watching the image replay, Lukas fell asleep.
