?Notice Me, Leia? by Lt.Commander Ahmad Sankoh Don?t get involved with the Rebellion. They don?t stand a chance against the Empire. You don?t want the Empire to associate you with them when the Imperial Navy crushes the Rebellion like cockroaches. Take the money and run, Solo. At least that was his normal philosophy concerning the Rebellion, but that was before he had met Princess Leia. Damn her. She was a whiny spoiled brat who was born with a silver spoon in her mouth, daughter of Senator Organa from Alderaan. At least she was before the Empire disbanded the Senate and destroyed Alderaan with their Death Star. So she had reason to want to fight the Empire, but she still had that damned smart mouth about her. And Han Solo was falling in love with her. Dammit, Solo! A woman isn?t worth getting your ass handed to you by the Empire! True¸he replied to himself. But she?s hot. So are most of the other women in all of the bars across the galaxy. Stop thinking with your dick and go get another job that?s not as likely to get you killed. ?I have the fastest ship available ? the Millennium Falcon is the ship that made the Kessel Run in under twelve parsecs! They need me,? he said aloud. ?She needs me. I could surely make it with her if I dash in at the right moment and save the day.? Solo/Sankoh had his feet up on the Falcon?s dinner table, the credstick in his hand with the payment from the Rebellion for his services. ?At any rate, I would at least get some more money if nothing else? CHEWIE!? he bellowed, walking toward the cockpit. ?Turn us around, back to Yavin IV!? The Death Star loomed ahead of them like a small moon around the big orange gas giant that was Yavin IV. The battle was already in progress; the area around the Death Star was so thick with turbolaser shots that a pilot would have to be crazy to fly in there. So I?m crazy. Solo pushed the Falcon to full throttle and flew the freighter right into the thick of things. The sheer speed advantage of the ship got him away from most of the TIE fighters swarming the area. From his radar, he could see that there was one X-Wing flying along the equatorial trench trying to find the exhaust port mentioned in the plans Leia had risked her life to aquire. The transponder told him that the brave pilot was none other than Luke Skywalker. Goddamn that kid. He wants her, too. I?ve gotta show him up. One X-Wing flying the trench? and then the three blips of TIE Fighters, one of them unlike anything he?d seen before, flying in tight formation behind it appeared on the radar. He flew closer, dodging a wave of fighters and saw the X-Wing start to swerve wildly in the trench as the fighters tailing it began to fire. Dammit. I can?t let him get killed. ?Chewie, get me a good shot at those fighters on his tail,? he said as he sprinted for the gun turret. He strapped himself in, primed his laser cannon, and waited for Chewie to get him in position to save Luke?s ass. Sankoh bit his bottom lip in anticipation and they flew within range of the Death Star?s turbolasers, but kept his eyes on the cannon?s sights. Chewie?s flying was superb as always and they only took a few minor hits, nothing the shields couldn?t handle. Within a few minutes, the Falcon was above the trio of fighters. Solo?s hazel eyes narrowed, making sure he had the shot lined up perfectly. He exhaled and then depressed the trigger, making sure to lead the targets sufficiently. With the lead he had, it almost looked like he was shooting at Luke?s X-Wing. The laser blasts hit home; two of the TIE Fighters exploded instantly, and the odd-looking one spun off into space, out of control. ?Yeehoo! You?re all clear, kid! Now let?s blow this thing and go home!? he said over the radio channel to Luke. It wouldn?t be long after Luke put the torpedo down that exhaust port that the Death Star would be a huge fireball, he realized. ?Chewie, get us the hell away from this thing!? he yelled over the internal communication system to the cockpit. Solo picked off a few more TIE Fighters while the Millennium Falcon flew away from the doomed Death Star. Again he thought, This is fun. ?Now she?ll notice me instead of that damned kid,? he said confidently.
