Unpacking Life by Ensign Nicole Weis Nicole walked into her quarters and began to feel her body relax. Work was a stressful thing, of course Nicole already knew that but it still surprised her. Her quarters were a bit empty and sad looking. There hadn?t been time for her to fully move in and make the living space truly hers. That was Nicole?s plan now, to change into comfortable, civilian clothing and to work on making her quarters fit her personality. As Nicole moved to her bedroom, she stripped off her Star Fleet uniform and folded it nicely, putting it away. Going to a bag of clothes that had yet to be unpacked and pulled out a pair of loose fitting black pants and a fitted, sleeveless pink tunic. The clothes weren?t her nicest but she didn?t want to look nice, she wanted to be comfortable. After changing into her comfortable clothes, she ran a brush through her curly hair, wishing to herself that it was just straight. Picking up a hair tie, she pulled her hair back into a pony tail and moved back out to her living room. ?Computer, play ?The Nothings?,? Nicole said, smiling as she heard the music start. Singing along with Otter, the bass player and singer of the band and also one of her best friends, Nicole moved about the room, unpacking her baggage. She had plants and fun trinkets that totally reflected herself. Pictures of her family and friends were placed in her bedroom and living room. She smiled at each memory the pictures invoked. Such as the picture of her with two of her best friends, Jen and Otter. All three of them were covered in mud, Jen trying to look mad and not laugh and Otter and Nicole smiling and laughing at themselves. That had been a great day, just like most of her school days. Smiling at all the pictures, Nicole finished placing around her quarters and began to unpack some of the books she had brought with her from home. Nicole might be a fun loving girl with almost always a joke on her lips but she was serious when it came time to be and read whenever she got the free moment to do it. Her books were slightly dusty and smelled musky but Nicole loved them, most of them had been gifts from her dad, who was the dean of students at a college near her house. In fact, most of the things that were now decorating her quarters were gifts from either friends or family members. The beautiful Betta fish that was swimming happily in the tank on one of her side tables had been a gift to her from her one brother, Jeff. He had given it to her before she left for the USS Atlantis; he said that since she couldn?t take her puppy, which was actually a full grown dog, with her, she could have a fish. Nicole stood up from where she was sitting, putting some things on a bottom shelf. Looking around her living room, Nicole felt a sense of accomplishment. Everything was put away and Nicole felt her body really relax. The rooms were starting to feel like a home for her. Moving to the couch, Nicole flopped down and let out a sigh of relief. With a smile, she propped her sock encased feet upon her coffee table. The only thing that would make her truly happy would be if she had someone, a friend or family member, there with her. With a slightly sad smile, Nicole closed her eyes and laid her head back, resting it on the back of the couch. With her body calming down, Nicole decided that a short nap would make her feel better. ________________________________________________________________ The best thing to hit the Internet in years - Juno SpeedBand!
