Getting up on the wrong Foot

The balding man's blue eyes sparkled with excitement, while he spoke. She
sat by his feet with a number of other children and grown-ups alike, some
sitting, some standing... a small crowd gathering around the famous Captain
Jean-Luc Picard, as he dazzled them with stories of adventure and discovery on
board the Federation starships that crisscrossed the galaxy in search of new
life and new civilizations.
She was mesmerize, as where most of the others in the group. It wasn't like
they weren't used to knowing discoveries, after all most of them were
Scientists or children of such. But life aboard a Starfleet vessel seemed to
have a certain draw, especially on those with an adventurous spirit.
As his words flowed, her imagination soared, her surroundings turning into
space, stars, planets, nebulae...

...slowly people's images faded, leaving only the darkness of space around
her. Picard's voice grew faint, until it completely subsided. The heated flush
of her own excitement gradually grew cold, as a chill creeped up her body. It
was as if an icy hand was reaching for her, pulling her in, from her toes, inch
by inch, moving up the length of her body. She instinctively kicked at the
frigid touch, but there was nothing there. And yet, slowly, her body grew numb
until she could feel it no more, only her brain was still running, laboriously
fighting against the overwhelming tiredness falling heavily upon her.

'No! NO! This isn't right! Don't let it overtake you! DON'T LET IT GET
YOU!! Fight, T'Shana, FIGHT!!!' She screamed, but there was no sound...

T'Shana woke up swinging, covered in sweat, her heart pounding into her
throat. She rolled over the edge of her bed and landed on the floor with a loud
thud. She rubbed her head, looking around the dim room cautiously. But hitting
the hard surface seemed to knock some more sense into her mind, for she began
to remember where she was, suddenly very happy that no one could see her
splatted on the floor like that.
She quickly jumped up and took a few rushed steps toward where she
remembered the bathroom was located, when she felt herself being held back, as
if someone was grabbing her ankles. A loud squeal came from her mouth before
she hit the floor once again.
She swung and kicked furiously, her heartbeat beginning to drum once again,
before she finally realized that the 'someone' that had grabbed her was a
something. Apparently, her feet had gotten tangled up in the blanket laying on
the floor, the blanket that she evidently had thrown off herself during her
disturbing dream.
"Oh, for goodness sake," T'Shana sighed, rubbing her forehead. "It was just
a dream... just a dream." She remained seated on the floor, pulling her legs
against her body, rocking slightly. "Many people relive perils. What can you
expect when going through a traumatic event like a near death experience...
yeah... near death...," she sighed, laying her forehead against her knees.
For a moment she wished she was back in sickbay. Rest had been much more
refreshing, when Dr. Fyrstk had kept her hypoed. She considered asking him for
a sleep aid, though she wondered if that would lessen her chances for Ronov to
make her a crew member.
"Maybe I just need to wait until after I see the Commander," she muttered.
She slowly stood up and moved to the bathroom, "IF I ever get to see him about
an assignment... hopefully....."

"Knowledge becomes wisdom only after it has been put to practical use."
