USAID/Jakarta is seeking candidates to fill the position of Economic
Specialist in the Economic Growth Office (USAID/ECG). Actual hiring
grade/rate may be lower dependent upon qualifications, experience and
salary history.
Position Title: Economic Specialist, FSN-12
Salary range between Rp. 190 - 304 million per year, depending on
qualifications, experience and salary history)
Hours of Work: 40 hours/week

Closing Date: Close of business June 14, 2002
Scope of Work: Use expert knowledge of economics and the Indonesian
economy, its institutions and actors to manage implementation of a
series of Economic Growth Team activities aimed at setting the
foundations for rapid, sustainable and equitable economic growth.
Provide technical and administrative support to assure proper
execution of economic activities in the Team. Take lead in the
evaluation of individual activities and monitoring for results of
Team activities. Study, analyze and interpret aspects of the
Indonesian economy, including relevant policies and laws, which
affect economic performance, to gain an understanding of the status
and trends in the economy and the external forces acting upon it.
Collaborate with USAID*s other economists to assure widespread
knowledge and use within the Mission, especially within the ECG team,
of economic data and relevant trends in the Indonesian economy. Apply
economic knowledge and knowledge of specific economic trends to
strengthen USAID*s strategic structure, to make recommendations
regarding specific activities which should be carried out to achieve
strategic objectives, and to enhance techniques for monitoring for
results. Develop and maintain an extensive range of high level
contacts with officials in government and private sector circles on a
broad range of economics issues of importance to both the United
States and Indonesia. Attend relevant seminars, meetings, and
conferences where key economic issues are discussed and debated.
Qualifications: Graduate degree in Economics or related field. PhD
desirable but not required. Desired is five years experience in
managing development projects and ten to 12 years of progressively
responsible experience in economics research analysis. Level IV
written and oral English (fluent) are required. Ability to plan,
organize and execute complex economic policy activities and to
prepare precise and accurate analytical and activity reports. A
thorough knowledge of modern economic principles and theory,
understand issues related to business law, MSMEs (micro, small and
medium enterprise) and gender issues. A thorough understanding of the
Indonesian economic structure, institutions, and policies in order to
manage activities and to advise USAID on the impact of economic
policy changes on the country*s development from the macroeconomic
and political-economy points of view. Ability to inter-relate
economic and business developments to the broader development and
political situation in the country. Ability to develop and maintain
extensive range of high level contacts in governmental and private
sector circles. Ability to give advice with objectivity and
detachment. Ability to communicate clearly in both written and oral
exposition.
FSNPSC - Applicants must be available for a minimum two-year
appointment.
