Yep there are major holes in the game, if you look at it purily at the mechanic of the system, but if you are only really after the story that it is set in, it is a good game to play. I am always on the lookout for sites where people have either patched / fixed up / or created their own stats for the ships & mecha. So if you know where there is a site that you can get the whole lot from ( i mean all the different robotech / macross series from feel free to drop me a line please, as i may soon want to pick up the books again, and the more correct info i have the better!
