I gotta say, Macross-II was a good series/movie, though saying it was better
than Macorss Plus is a stretch. A BIG stretch. Let's not get ahead of ourselves
here, it was better than Macross 7 and let's leave it at that.
Palladium did a crappy job on the RPGs anyway, and not just Macross-II. It's
robotech series was riddled with errors as well, mostly pertaining to numbers
and sizes. For instance, when Siembieda runs the numbers for the mecha
compliment of Zentradi vessels, he comes up with some of the most rediculous
figures in the history of gaming. He puts a Zentradi cruiser having something
like 12,000 Regults and thousands of fighter pods and PAs, though if you
actually check his math on the figures based on the size of the mecha hangars,
the maximum possible number is about 250 battlepods and a few dozen fighters.
He carries his mistakes over to Macross-II, not only with mecha compliments but
with ship sizes. The UN-Spacy Corvette is given at being alittle over 300
meters long with a compliment of about thirty fighters or so, even though in
the animation the ship is seen side by side with Zentradi carriers up to three
kilometers long; it's about the same size when you look at it. (Beginning of
Ep-6 for those who are wondering. Both ships are floating in the water near UN
Spacy HQ) He also figures it makes sense to have the Macross Cannons being the
size of ARMD carriers, even though we can plainly seem them dwarfing some
Zentradi vessels the RPG says are supposed to be twice it's size (Macross
Cannons look close to the size of Battle 7 in the animation). And given the
fleet numbers and fighter compliments he writes in the RPG, not to mention the
fact that none of the UN Spacy ships have the firing range to attack anything
before they get wasted, the UN Spacy might as well be non-existent compared to
just about any other force that might attack Earth. And how is it that after
eighty years not a single UN Spacy warship is equipped with a fold system?
Take my advice, use the RPG books for the images of the ships and mecha and
then use the rest for toilet paper. The statistics aint worth the paper they're
printed on.
