Hi everybody.
First of all, no need to worry, this is just to create an awareness of
recent overall virus activity.
In the last couple of weeks I have repeatedly received virus infected
e-mails. These viruses belong to the W32/Klez family and are capable of
randomly picking names from an infected computer's address book (outlook
express users) and sending itself to other people in that address book but
using another person's address as the FROM field.
Considering this fact and the one that I received these mails indicates the
possibility that someone might get attacked using my name. There is no need
to worry however, as my computer is virus free (I run the latest McAfee
software in the background) and the risk of getting infected mails from the
list is very small.
The list is configured to accept only mails by subscribers and if one of us
sends an infected mail to the list, I will notice it and put a temp ban on
the user and notify the rest of you.
In case you want to take precautions I recommend installing the freeware
firewall program "ZoneAlarm". You can download a free copy from
www.zonealaram.com It is a little technical but it is priceless in keeping
your system and data safe as it prevents any hostile programs from accessing
your computer from the outside AND prevents viruses sending data from your
computer without your noticing it.
Again, don't worry about getting infected by the list, the risk of getting
infected by a mail sent by someone else you know is far far greater.
Thanks,
Burn
