[UK TV Freelancers] Work experience guidelines, and career change

Dear TV Freelancer,

It's been a great week for freelancers' issues, and we have hardly drawn
breath. It seems, with the publication of the Guardian's piece on Monday,
that freelance issues are finally well and truly on the agenda, and we're
working hard with TV Wrap to make sure we build on this. Thanks to all of
you for your support in bringing us this far. Here are a few bits to tide
you over the weekend!

1. It may be worth getting a copy of next Monday's Media Guardian. We
understand that they've had such a large response to this Monday's piece,
that there may be a follow-up on the way.

2. Thank you for your many responses with evidence of abusive conditions to
submit to PACT, as per our last email. We'd like still more - keep them
coming, to evidence@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

3. On a similar subject, PACT publishes some rather good guidelines on their
own website for good practice in running work experience schemes. People
working unpaid should be aware of these - and use them as a strong moral
lever if they need to negotiate fairer conditions. We've got the link, and a
discussion of the law behind them, on our forum at:

4. Finally, we asked for your thoughts about a career service for
freelancers wanting to leave the industry. After a (worryingly large)
response, the results are here, in the form of a new site:

and they'll be sending out news of an inaugural workshop in the near future.
Register for the new site so they can keep in touch with you - email us for
the password.

All the best,
