Dear Freelancer,
Following deeply worrying reports that the BBC is considering imposing a new
freelance ratecard, with significant pay cuts, BECTU is organising a series
of meetings, open to all freelancers who work for the BBC. The first, for
London and the South-East, will be in the Large Hall at Friends Meeting
House, 173 Euston Road, London NW1 on Thursday 22nd June. Access is from
7.30 p.m. and the meeting will start at 8.00 p.m. More info about this and
other meetings is at the top of our home page at www.tvfreelancers.org.uk.
On a similar topic, if you have two minutes today, please visit our online
rates database and contribute data of your own, especially if you are
working, or have recently worked, for the BBC. A tiny proportion of those
who use the databases actually contributes data to it, and we need to
increase that. This will become an increasingly vital tool as freelancers
fight to hold on to going rates - please give us up-to-date info as to what
those rates are - the resource is only as good as the data in it. Go to our
website as above and login or register via the members' area panel on the
left (it is all free and anonymous).
Finally, thanks to all of you who attended the BECTU Freelances Fair on
Friday - it was a great success and BECTU is already planning next year's
event!
All the best,
TV Freelancers
