[UK TV Freelancers] Freelance Hell

Dear TV Freelancer,

Have you been through Freelance Hell in the last year? If so, we'd like
to hear about it.

In the summer of 2003, we contacted you asking for stories about life in
the TV industry, for a conference entitled 'Freelance Hell' at the
Edinburgh TV festival. Your response at the time was eye-opening, and
made a fantastic contribution to the debate. Now, eighteen months on,
we'd like to hear from you again with your stories of 'freelance hell' -
anonymously, if you wish.

This time, we have two reasons for asking for your experiences. The
first is for a forthcoming feature article in Broadcast which will
include some of the most typical stories, as well as putting forward
thoughts as to how these situations - and the wider issues they
highlight - can be addressed.

The second reason is to back up the online petition at 'TV WRAP'
(http://www.tvwrap.org.uk), which is campaigning for the protection of
freelancers' working rights. The true stories of conditions experienced
by freelancers are adding enormous credibility to their campaign, as you
can already see from their brilliant site - do pay a visit if you
haven't already.

For either purpose, you can remain as anonymous as you wish, and you
will be able to vet any text before it is released, if you want to make
sure your identity is protected.

You can really help us to make a difference to freelancers' working
conditions. Email your story or phone number to
freelancehell@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx - or simply hit 'reply' to this
email.

Very best wishes
