Dear TV Freelancer,
A small group of freelance professionals in the TV industry have
recently got together to launch a new online community for freelance TV
professionals. Their website address is www.tvfreelancers.org.uk .
The idea began as the result of a discussion thread on the
productionbase forum (www.productionbase.co.uk) and has since grown into
a rapidly expanding community of freelance professionals, keen to find
ways to share information and generally improve the lot of the
freelancer. At the moment the initiative is still at a fairly early
stage; we want to hear from as many people as possible about the issues
they feel need addressing in their professional lives, and the services
they would like to see offered on our website.
Already we have a well established web presence, with a lively forum
discussing various subjects and a growing email mailing list. We hope
soon to be able to add interactive functions to the site that will
enable you to access and share information about rates and employers -
good and bad.
The website has already attracted the attention and support of BECTU and
of the broadcast branch of the NUJ, both of whom are contributing to the
debate on the site. We have also received very generous offers of
support from productionbase in terms of web hosting facilities, which we
hope will enable us to increase the effectiveness and interactivity of
the site.
Please visit our website at www.tvfreelancers.org.uk to see the latest
news. On the website is a space which enables you to sign up to our
email mailing list at the click of a button. Updates are sent out every
few weeks, or whenever there is a major new development to report. It's
free of course, there are no ads and your email address will not be
supplied to third parties. If you do nothing else as a result of this
email, please sign up to this list. There is strength in numbers, and
the more support we can demonstrate, the greater our lobbying strength
will become.
Very best wishes,
tvfreelancers.org.uk
