[UK TV Freelancers] BBC rate cuts - help BECTU respond

Dear TV Freelancer,

Recently we've been hearing of cost-cutting initiatives within the BBC's
Factual and Learning department to enforce standardised freelance rates.
This is a deeply worrying step from a broadcaster often regarded as one of
the fairest employers of freelancers, and camera crews have been first in
line to feel the bite.

BECTU is gearing up to respond to this move, and we're passing on a message
from the union which we urge you to read, whether you're a member or not.
Freelancers have never been in greater need of an organised response, and
the more info you give BECTU, the better the union can represent you. The
message is here:

Or simply go to our welcome page at www.tvfreelancers.org.uk and follow the
link there. You can also post your own experiences in this thread.

It's also been discussed on the independent 'Watercooler' TV forum here:

thread=1146117861

(scroll down half a dozen postings for the relevant info).

Our long-established rates database at www.tvfreelancers.org.uk will become
an even more valuable tool for you to check the actual going rate for your
grade - but this tool is only as good as the data it contains. Please visit
the site and contribute your own current or recent rate information - it's
all anonymous.

Best wishes
