Most of these questions are up to the state although the City has input. I?m going to encourage Rob to have the state people in at the next CUF meeting to explain the current plans. I will try to find them on the internet. The state had originally included an access road to Central Parkway from McMicken but I understand that was taken out. _____ From: uhna-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:uhna-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Donnelly Sent: Friday, July 30, 2010 8:56 AM To: uhna@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Cc: bettinadschmid@xxxxxxxxx; donnelt@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx; Andrea.Henderson@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [UHNA] Re: FW: proposed changes on Riddle Importance: High Hi, Cindy, Andrea, and everyone, Regarding the city?s proposed changes on Riddle, East McMicken, Clifton, MLK, and I-75, I have a question about (1) what will happen to the land on East McMicken between MLK and old Hopple (the short dead-end street next to the old Sunflower Coffee Shop) once it is no longer possible to go from East McMicken onto MLK. (2) Will all the buildings on that stretch of East McMicken be torn down and replaced by a wider MLK and some green space? (3) If there will be some green space there, will the city do some beautifying tree and bush planting there? (4) Will the city also pay for an attractive ?Welcome to University Heights? sign/monument there, too? And if there is to be some general beautifying of the area, (5) would it be possible, even now, for the city to pay for and plant street trees along Riddle Road where there are still treeless gaps? Most of our Riddle Road street trees now are flowering pears, but I would be pleased if the gaps got filled by whatever small, flowering trees the city deems appropriate. If anyone has any comments or other alternatives, you should let her know. The emphasis should be on safety. It seems like the most dangerous turn is the right turn on Clifton jumping 3 lanes which will not be eliminated under this proposal. Again the proposal is to widen MLK and eliminate left turns from Riddle onto and from MLK. The McMicken access will be eliminated under the I-75 plans. Dan is going to bring it up at the trustees meeting next week, but I see no harm in polite letters from the neighbors. _____ From: Henderson, Andrea [mailto:Andrea.Henderson@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Tuesday, July 27, 2010 1:19 PM To: Cindy Summers Cc: Hyre, Brad Subject: RE: Riddle Cynthia, The City and the project team have been trying to find a solution to this area for quite some time. The I-75 plans to remove Riddle access from McMicken has only complicated the issue. All of our community input has been considered (I?ll forward your suggestion to the group). Your suggestion is a good one and it has been considered, I appreciate it. The decision has not been made, however, I hope we can come to some conclusion within the next couple of weeks. This is going to be a tough call. I?ll keep you informed. In short, the team has agreed that this was too difficult a decision to make during the meeting. Everyone has been asked to leave the meeting and consider the arguments on all sides before casting a vote. There will be a follow up meeting some time in the near future. I have recently found out about plans to change the Riddle Road access to Martin Luther King by eliminating left turns onto and from MLK from Riddle. If the McMicken and Riddle intersection is eliminated in the I_75 plans, access from Riddle will be very limited under these proposals. Turning left from Probasco onto Clifton Ave. is almost impossible A better alternative is to limit the restrictions to rush hour which is the dangerous time.
