Those running for City Council and the Mayor's office will state their positions and answer question of neighborhood interest in this event which starts at 7 pm at the Cintas Center on the Xavier University campus. Gene Beaupre, assistant director of the Xavier University Institute for Politics and Public Life, will moderate. Put it on your calendar! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- The keynote speaker for this year's Regional Neighborhood Network Conference in Decatur, IL was hailed for his fight against crime by Time Magazine in a July 2009 profile and recently declined a chance to work for President Barack Obama in order to continue his city government work. Some are even suggesting that he could one day be President of the United States. Newark, New Jersey Mayor Cory Booker will serve as the keynote speaker for the conference being held Sept. 17-19, 2009 at the Decatur Conference Center and Hotel. Decatur will serve as conference host for the first time since its inception more than 20 years ago and the theme, "Hats of to the Neighborhoods," salutes the hard work of our neighborhood leaders while giving a subtle nod to Decatur's Abraham Lincoln history. The cost for the conference is $100, which includes all meals, workshops, transportation and speakers, or $25 for those wanting to attend the keynote address only. Sr. Citizen Hall of Fame September 4, 2009 On September 4, Cincinnati Recreation Commission will host its annual Senior Citizen Hall of Fame celebration. The Senior Citizen Hall of Fame was inaugurated by the Senior Citizens' Advisory Council of the Cincinnati Recreation Commission in cooperation with the City of Cincinnati and its Mayor. The Hall of Fame recognizes the contributions and achievements of its senior citizens. Awards are presented to persons 60 and older. Nominees are selected by their fellow members on the basis of significant and continuing contributions to the social and cultural life of Cincinnati. More than 1500 seniors have been inducted into the Hall of Fame at the annual banquet. Last year, 36 representatives were inducted into the Hall of Fame at a banquet hosting more than 700 attendees, including city officials and other dignitaries.
