Hi James,
My concern/confusion (losing it! LOL!) is the guideline by UKAAF "a grade 1
word indicator is used because the subscript symbol that requires a grade 1
indicator is not in the first 3 cells of the expression (UKAAF Additional
Guidance)"
Where I can see a use for Grade 1 indicators is on page 30 which I have used to
encase a word equation with missing formulae, using 'ing' to represent the
missing word equations (3 with plus symbols present between them).
Thanks again for your input. It is appreciated. (Perhaps it is time for me to
go out to pasture! ;-) )
John.

Hi,
If you're only using grade 1 (that is a grade 1 document with no grade 2
contractions), then the only time you need to specifically use a grade 1
indicator is for a lowercase letter a-j immediately following a digit. E.g. 2c
would be #b;c ⠼⠃⠰⠉
All other signs have their grade 1 meaning, without needing a grade 1
indicator. For example, you can write H (sub) 2 O as
,h5#b,o ⠠⠓⠢⠼⠃⠠⠕
Hope this helps.
With best regards,
James.

Subject: [ueb-ed] query on Chemistry Notation
Importance: High
I am in the middle of preparing a mock exam for a Y11 student in Science and
the query is on Chemistry notation. I am reading page 23 of the 'Using UEB for
Science' from the RNIB. The student only uses Grade 1 – the question is this –
are grade 1 indicators required if the user only uses Grade 1 or is it
necessary to include for interpretation purposes. Sorry if I have asked this
before – 2nd day back after a viral infection.
