Hello Rich,

well yes, as I mentioned initially, two-level Intel Speedstep of the Mobile 
Pentium 3, I use the powernowd daemon to reduce the cpu frequency from 1133 
MHz to 730 MHz when approbiate. Most of the time my laptop runs at 730 MHz.

Shall I try without? Anyway I can live with "timehack" if it has no hidden 
disadvantages.
