[u3aavcuss] Re: E mail attachments I cannot open

There are clearly several ways of approaching this but for the odd DOCX
file, anyone can use an online product called: http://www.zamzar.com/

This read DOCX files and creates DOC files,

Mike

(PS you can get a Word add-in for Word versions that recognises that the
user is trying to read a DOCX file and automatically converts it to DOC.
That's perhaps too much work fir the occasional DOCX file.

Hello one and all,

This problem is not a function of whether you are using Windows XP, Vista or
Windows 7. It is a function of which Version of Microsoft Office and in
particular which version of Word, you are using. Versions of Word from 1997
to 2003/2004 generate files with a .doc file extension. Versions of Word
from 2007 onwards generate files with a .docx file extension.

If you know someone who has Word 2007, they will be able to convert .docx
files to .doc files.

I hope this is of some help.

Regards,

Mike Sanders

Subject: [u3aavcuss] E mail attachments I cannot open

Good morning everyone

I have received an e mail from the District Council with an attachment which
I cannot open. (This often happens, and I now know how to ask friends to
re-send using a different form, but don't want to have to write similarly to
outside agencies). The following message appears when I try to open them

'This file does not have a programme associated with it for performing this
action. Create an Association in the Folder Options Control Panel'

I am still using Windows XP and cannot find the 'Options Control Panel'. I
have tried all the folder files, and associated options but nothing seems to
have anything to do with the required action! I think that at some stage I
must get a more up-to-date computer, but am partly put off by the fact that
as soon as one does that, they bring out a new programme.
