[u3aavcuss] Re: Disabling Add-ons_Internet Explorer 9_Windows Vista

Dear Ron and Rosemary,
Thank you - I have followed your instructions re Manage Add Ons & I have
disabled about 4 of the Add Ons. If I don't like being without them, I can
easily re-enable them as you suggest.

Hopefully, this may speed up my browsing experience.
With thanks and kind regards,
Betty.

  Dear Betty

I am not quite sure why you should keep getting this message, but it is
probably only Microsoft being over helpful. Maybe just opening the Manage Add
On's box will cause it to go away.

In Internet Explorer 9 there is a row of options at the top of the page -
File, Edit, View, Favo(u)rites, Tools and Help. If you open Tools, about half
way down is Manage Add-On's. In here you will find all sorts of items that you
may use in IE9. It is very possible that when you bought your PC the supplier
set up a number of tool bars etc. with the object of encouraging you to use a
particular Search Engine. (They get paid for every search that is made). Maybe
you don't use these but they are still on the front page of IE9 taking up
valuable space.

For example I have disabled the Ask Toolbar because I do not use it and also
disabled a few others. These take up space at the top of the screen that I
prefer to keep free. You can try turning them on or off to see what you prefer.
You can also delete them but you may find you would rather have them back at a
later date.

Next is Search Providers, mine is Google but there are also others such as
Bing and Yahoo. Choose which you prefer. There is also a box down the bottom of
the pop-up to "Prevent programs suggesting changes to my search provider".
Quite useful as I don't like Bing or Yahoo!

Within this pop-up there are also links to various Microsoft Help sections
that are useful and give a description of the relevant item.

I would suggest that if you try changing any of these to first make a note of
what you change and only change one at a time. Then it should not be too
difficult to put things back if you don't like the result.

It is often a good idea to look at http://support.microsoft.com and see if
there is info relating to your question.

We would all be interested in how you get on.

  Regards Ron M :-)

  Dear Colleagues,
In IE9, using Windows Vista, I regularly receive the following message:

Speed up browsing by disabling add-ons Choose add ons Ask
me later

I am never quite sure which add ons I should choose to disable. Any advice
would be greatly appreciated.

  With thanks and kind regards,
  Betty Sharp
