Hello:
If it helps, attached is our brief submission on Bill C-525 which addresses
this issue. There is a also a wealth of material available online through the
Changing Workplace Review taking place in Ontario.
With respect, the argument that removing card check leads to lower unionization
rates (and less success in organizing drives) is NOT the most compelling or
effective argument on this issue. I agree that pointing to higher rates of
inequality that are the result of lower union density is a more helpful avenue.
But, the most important argument on this issue is that card check is by far the
most fair and democratic process by which to ascertain employee wishes with
respect to unionization. Mandatory votes are fundamentally undemocratic because
they invite inherently coercive interventions by employers into the "debate"
over whether workers should have a union.
Thanks.

Subject: [TURC] Re: research on removal of card check
Hi Lynne,
Further to Michael Mendelson's suggestion, a recent study by the Economic
Policy Institute in the U.S. suggests that declining union density rates have
lowered wages for all workers and contributed to rising inequality:

Lynne, the research is important but of course we should be aware that theMichael Mendelson
