Throughout their academic careers, university students generate many ideas for
environmental projects but can be discouraged due to lack of funding. Now with
UTERN, they will have help. The University of Toronto Environmental Resource
Network (UTERN), newly established in 2003 as the first of its kind in Canada,
is a grant-giving body that funds student-initiated environment-related events
and projects.

On 2 October 2003 UTERN will host its Annual General Meeting at Innis Town Hall
from 4:30-6:00pm. David Stonehouse, Executive Director of the prominent Toronto
environmental organization Evergreen Foundation, will deliver a keynote address
at the inaugural event. Items also on the agenda will include the by-election
and an official launch of the new UTERN website. Immediately following the
meeting attendees will enjoy a free reception with food, drink and live music.

UTERN is a student-run organization established to provide student groups at
all three University of Toronto campuses with the opportunity to develop
partnerships within the community to achieve environmental goals. UTERN ensures
funds are directed toward projects and activities initiated by students, and
enables them to make a significant contribution to the University community and
the environment. This organization is vital to maintaining the integrity of
University of Toronto environmental policies on campus and allowing all
students to benefit from a socially-responsible, environmentally-active, and
sustainable university community.
