Everyone,
Please see attached picture of this weekend's campout!
Huge thanks to Mike Slusser, Rick Colby, Kristin Keiser, Brian Doyle, and
Todd Keiser for coming to camp and helping out! We could not have pulled
off orienteering without them. Sam Sortman and Eli Sherck had the most
organized grub master planning and execution I have ever seen, and the food
the boys cooked was really good!
Turns out having more parents at camp outs make everything WAY easier, lol,
especially when we do activities, such as orienteering. Just easier to give
more guidance and coaching that way, so more of this learning should stick.
Double shout out to Brian Doyle, who made the Scouts go back to The Sports
Field marker, how-ever-many times, until they came to his marker actually
using the compass and the correct heading! Lol it was pretty funny.
It is impressive to see these scouts begin to really work together as a
team. The SPL, ASPL and patrol leaders are doing a fantastic job of leading
the younger Scouts. The younger Scouts are improving their basic camping
skills, and they are all becoming more courteous, kind, and helpful during
group outings. Which is crazy important for the adult's sanity, if nothing
else!
I hear from Mr. Slusser that the pack 94 Webelo I group, a year from
crossing over to our troop, has 11 scouts now. Wow. So I am thankful and
grateful for those parents that are pitching in so much, please keep doing
so!
On the topic of camping: Camping with the Scouts might not sound like fun,
but I encourage everyone to try it. The boys love to show how good they
are at their outdoor skills. You will be happy you came, even if it is
cold and rainy!, once you see them get so excited over a Kodak moment.
We've seen Scouts successfully build their first fires, set up their tent
with all poles accounted for, and flip their first pancake. Priceless!
Plus, if you do not come camping with us, you will never know what the Red
Roof Inn and Russian Spotlight are!
