There is a setting in Defrag that will place all your most frequently used apps at the front of the drive. If the apps are the front then I assume the freespace would be at the end. To optimize the drive go into Windows Explorer\Windows\Defrag........ open Defrag and select what you want it to do. The Defrag file from Win ME defrags much faster than the one included with Win98.
