Hi Brian ...

Here is the address for a monitor that works on most internet connections
(including cable and DSL). I used this a long time ago and I beleive it's a
digital type speed indicator, but it also has other feature that I have
forgot.

http://www.analogx.com/contents/download/network/nsl.htm

It's called NetStat Live and the download is right at the top of the page.
(Only 257kb download). Also a screen shot there and info on the program.

connection?

Here is an address that is everything broadband (DSL, Cable, Saatellite
etc.) It's a great site with very capable helpers to assist in making tweaks
to your connection to squeeze every last drop of speed out of your
connection. It's all free, but you must register. I have belonged to it for
over 2 years and use it constantly to keep track of my download speeds and
settings. There are free speed tests and tweak tests that you can take on
your own and quickly see how things are going in real time. The helpers on
there are great. Just go to the right forum (for cable) and tell them right
away that you are a newbie on cable and they will treat you with respect
regardless of your questions. I HIGHLY recommend them. Don't be concerned
that the address only refers to DSL ... it is everything. Once you register
and sign in, you are good for 30 days without signing in again and when that
runs out, you will simply get the username and password box to sign in for
another month. The site is large, but after a short while, you will find the
links that you want to use and find it simple to navigate.

I know how you feel about the speed increase ... I have been on DSL 1Meg
speed (transfer rate about 125KB/s) and Sympatico just gave us a free raise
to 1.5 Meg speed (about 180 KB/s transfer) ... it sure makes a difference.
Good luck with your new high speed connection and the monitor.

Howard

PS ... the dsl.reports site does not work for dialup.
