Does not your new drive have an accompanying floppy
that will let you fdisk, format, partition & clone the
old drive to the new one?

That would be the easiest & safest way in any
situation. Most of these new drives bring this
accompanying software, all in a tiny 3.5 in. floppy.

In the old XP drive, make sure you empty all the temp
folders, Internet Explorer Contents files first and
then defrag it. Now IT is ready to be cloned.

Enslave the new HDD to the old one, change your PC's
BIOS to boot from the floppy and follow the
instructions.

You will even be given the opportunity to partition
your new HDD if you so desire. It will fdisk and format
and partition and clone the drive for you.

That's how I would do it if I had XP and NTFS.

If I had XP and FAT32, then I could do it by enslaving
one of the XP disks to my Win98 C: HDD, and the new XP
HDD to my CD drive and then I would boot into Safe
Mode, open a DOS box and do the SERVKFCH of the old XP
drive to the new XP drive. Of course, the
new(soon-to-be)XP drive would first have to be fdisked
and formatted.

I am still confused as to the best backup program to
transfer window XP and all programs and files to a new

Can anyone direct me?  The reviews of Drive Image are
terrible.
