Hi Tracey
I'm SO with you on this one. I worked various jobs from the age of about
fourteen and had done voluntary work before that. I don't think it necessarily
has to be a paid job, but it helps with the money management. I had (and have)
a hard time being told what to do so work was good for me. Plus i learned the
value of money early on as I had to buy "extras" myself - i.e. clothes I wanted
but didn't NEED, make-up, music, cinema tickets, etc.
My sister on the other hand did not work. She didn't work at uni either. She
got her first job at 21, which I GOT HER!!! She still finds working hard,
dislikes applying for jobs and interviews etc. She has had trouble working out
what she does and doesn't want to do. And she's struggled to manage money,
until she was in a really well paid job. She also struggles with practical
tasks like bills, etc. Her car broke down a year ago and she still hasn't
figured out how to get a new one. I think I manage these things because I was
doing it from when I was a teenager.
So yeah I'm in the camp of workin them! ha ha ha. Matthew will be getting a
job when he's four!!! He already has jobs round the house bless him, which
most of my friends think amounts to child abuse. ArfDemi we didn't encourage
Jen to work as a teenager and I believe it was a mistake.
