Susan,
Not telling you how to parent your child or anything but we didn't encourage 
Jen to work as a teenager and I believe it was a mistake.  She didn't do 
well at school anyway and so we ended up with a child at 17 who had never 
had any experience working and found it was very hard to get her into the 
workplace at that age.  Maybe if Mark has some responsibility and his own 
money he will be a little happier at school too.  Just my 2c worth
