Sam,
Thank God!!!! I was worried when I read that. Pete and Louisa had that
test done on the thinkness of the the neck, they used that along with the
U/S and decided not to do an amnio, because the two test came out good
(somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that's the way it went)
Anyway, with Jessica I did have an amnio after the AFP come back with an
indication of T21 and the markers from the level 2 U/S (heart on wrong side,
brain had a pocket of fluid in it and the two vessel cord). Of course, they
give you all this information at the U/S and try to talk you into the amnio.
Being numb at the time you pretty much do what they tell you. The level 2
is a more detailed u/s. Mine was done in Peoria, IL, which is a highly
specialized hospital for infants. I think normally you have to go to a
hospital like that to have them done. I really can't say what I would do if
I had a bad level 2 again. I have the opinion that our babies have alot
better fighting chance if the dx is not confirmed prior to birth. It might
be unwarranted, but from what I've seen on these lists, it appears that the
Doctors will do more if they don't know ahead of time. I know the attitude
that I had to face with medical staff outside of my OB, (you know, the "why
do that, it's not going to make a difference on the outcome anyway?") and
that I would NOT tolerate again, just call me older and wiser!!! I actually
had an associate of my OB's tell the nurse in front of me that they weren't
going to do the Strep B test because it wouldn't change the outcome of the
baby. My OB pulled him aside and told him that YES, we would be treating me
and my baby just like any other one! Come to find out I was positive for
strep b.

There is also the opposite side of the coin, that if they know ahead of time
they can be prepared - it just depends on you and your husband.

Boy did I go off there, guess that's what ya get when you ask my opinion :-)
sorry, I go climb under my rock again - tee hee I'm really glad everything
is looking good for you!

lotsoflove
