Hi,
I have a two-fold perspective. When Hope died on Nov. 1, neither she
nor Denny were able to even think about Christmas cards. And pretty
much everyone knew about her death. But instead of a Christmas
letter which they had always done, they sent out a New Year's letter
- by e-mail - to everyone in her address book. None were mailed.
She talked about their year of excitement, dread, fear, sorrow, etc.
But she did it in a pretty special way. I was so proud of her.
Since then, they have sent out their normal Christmas letter and have
not used Hope's name, but they have used a star or some other symbol
to identify that there was Hope.

Then, I was supposed to have Christmas Day dinner at my house in 1999
because my mom was in a small apartment and my dad was in the
adjacent nursing home. On Christmas morning, we got a call at 4:30
a.m. to come to the nursing home. We packed up all of the presents,
all of the food, etc. and went to Mom's. We had Christmas in shifts
with at least two of us staying with Dad all day. He passed away on
Dec. 26th.

I had not sent out any cards that year. It was just too hard to
explain to people what was happening with my family. But the next
year, I sent out a letter and explained why I hadn't sent any out the
year before.

Now, Christmas and Halloween are two days before two very special
people were taken from me to heaven. Thank goodness that we have Ali
in her pumpkin suit this year. And Mom is having her own problems so
we concentrate on her.
