[tri-wings] today

Well we survived the police games, got their early ( a first) Bec's old
therapists ( both retired ) were happy to see us, said they were thrilled to
see our names on the list. Talked to a few people, it went ok, next at the
start of the games ran in to the mom of a girl Mark has befriended, first
words out of her mouth after hi was were is your
daughter?......................she felt so bad after I told her......we
talked a lot over the day and she took my # so we can get together..we
talked about how you lose friends when you have a child with issues ( her
daughter was born with a brain tumor and then had a stroke, and her son has
autism ) and how you lose friends when you child dies, I told her I had seen
people I knew at the games and that they either did not see me or ignored
me, about 15 min later a mom I sort of know came up to me and asked how I
was and hugged me, she said that she had been thinking of us and of the
Andersons ( another local family who lost their son Oct 05) I told her I
was in touch with the mom and she said "no one was able to call Shelley" (
the mom) its so sad we have all these families with kids with disabilities
in the community and they cant call each other to support one another in a
time of loss, I guess they are thinking it could be them one day......so to
cap it off, the games were hard, but not as hard as I thought, Mark got 8
hrs community service ( he needs 40 hrs to graduate high school) BTW the
team we were assigned to was from the school at the children's treatment
center it's a school for kids who need a year or two intensive therapy (
not as disabled as our kids, Rebecca did not qualify to go there) so they
were all like kindergarten age..only one in a w/c...but guess what our team
won over all???????!!!!!!!!! So we are on the list to volunteer next
year.....

PS and it was nice to see families/kids that are like Rebecca was,

And as I was making my rounds with a tray of drinks at lunch one of the
police officers took a can of pop and then looked up at me, it was a girl
that was one of my best friends in high school.....I was in her
wedding....and even she knew of our loss, I was not even sure she knew I
had a disabled child.....she took my # and said we should do coffee, so I
have 2 offers of coffee, lets see.....
