Dear Dina,
After years of trying for fall pregnant our hopes and dreams were shattered
when we received Susanna's T18 diagnosis at 22 weeks gestation. In our
situation we decided to leave it in God's hands and we prayed for a chance
at life for Susanna. She was born at 38 weeks by c-section weighing 4lb 6oz
and was truly beauiful. She shared her life with us for 9 weeks and 2 days
and we have never regretted our decision. Yesterday would have been her
"5th" birthday.
Would I do it all again for Susanna? Yes. Would I do it all again in
another pregnancy?
I honestly don't know. We now have two beautiful
little girls - Laura 2 1/2 years old and Clare 4 1/2 months old. I also
suffered a miscarriage inbetween having Susanna and Laura. We opted for no
prenatal testing with either of these pregnancies, BUT had a problem arisen
I can't say what we would have done. We love Susanna with all our hearts
and miss her deeply, but we wouldn't want to go through the heartache again.
Having said that, I believe there is deep heartache with whatever decision
you make and hence it is such a personal decision. I agree so much with all
the others who have responded to your post, that you must follow your heart
and do what is right for you. This is one of the most heart breaking
decisions that you will ever have to make. Ask lots of questions, listen to
advice and take it on board, but ultimately it is a decision that only YOU
can make.
I wish you all the very best and if you have any other questions, please
don't hesitate to ask.
Take care,
Sue

most grateful to be better prepared for this awful decision we seem to have
to make as soon as possible so we can move on with our lives either way.
