Respite care is the person who works one on one with someone...like a
glorified babysitter kinda. There's respite care for seniors, for kids, for
specific conditions.... Where I live, most respite care is through Easter
Seals-UCP. My main respite client is an 8 year old girl with severe cerebral
palsy. When I started working with her she was 5. I pick her up from school,
fix her a snack and help her to eat it, help with homework. Then we play for a
while. I try to make up games or change games around to help her work on her
physical, occupational, and speech therapy goals. I bathe her and get her
ready for bed and put her to bed. Some respite workers choose to not be as
involved as I am, but I love it.
