I gave birth to a little boy, Zachary, in November of 2000. He was diagnosed with Trisomy 13 two days after his birth. I carried him to 37 weeks (considered full term) and he weighed 5lbs 8oz. I did not have an amnio or an AFP prior to his birth even though I had been advised to. I just felt that the worst case scenario would have been Trisomy 21 (Downs). I had never even heard of Trisomy 13. Zachary was with us for four days. His birth and his passing changed my life forever. I am thankful for the time that I had with him and wouldn't trade it for the world even though letting him go was the most difficult thing I have ever had to do. Like you, I wonder what he would be like today. There is not a day that goes by that I don't think of him. I am expecting again and I am due on May 1. I may have the baby a bit earlier since I will probably have another c-section. I did have an amnio this time and all is well. Time does ease the pain. You never get over loosing your child, you simply learn to live with it. I look forward to hearing more from you and hope that the days ahead bring you some peace. Joyce, mom to Zachary 11/15/00-11/20/00, wife to Alan, and expecting another bundle of love 05/01/02.
