Thanks, Lore Ann,=20

I am sorry to hear about your niece. Did the parents find out when the bab=
y
was born? What a devastating Christmas your family had this year.=20

Because we prepared for the worst, we were so happy and thrilled when my
daughter was a week old when we had news of her heart. Some nurses and
doctors couldn't understand it. You sure learn to live one day at a time.=

Thank you for your condolences=20

Barb=20

ps I will look forward to getting to know you better!=20

Hello everyone, My name is Barb and my daughter Annie, died from TRi 13
onAug12, 2005.She was 80 days old. I have met Pam (Hi Pam!) and she speaks
very highly of this list and how it has helped her, so I guess it is high
time that I joined. My husband and I have 9 other children (all ours!)
ranging from 3 to 26 years of age. Only 5 are at home now. We are having =

a
difficult time getting over our daughters death. She was diagnosed
prenatallyvia ultrasound, so it is not that her death was unexpected. Befor=

e
she was born, 3 echos showed a borderline hypoplastic left heart. However,
her heart condition turned out to be mild, with no intervention likely
needed. She did not have from apnea. She suffered respiratory problems
related to her trachea. We chose to give her a chance, and wanted to
considerwhatever options were possible to give her a chance at life. =3D20
Well,I guess the drs. thought otherwise. When she entered the ER 24 hours
before her death, they told us she had pnuemonia. They never explained if
shehad any other life threatening problem, so she was NOT dnr, because
pneumonia is treatable. The records show the critical care dr. wrote a DNR
inher chart. One nurse gave a supplemental dosage of chloral hydrate withou=

a dr. order, 3 hours before Annie died. The last nurse recorded no
medications, although we know they were given. Annie suffered terribly on
thelast night of her life despite being on a BIPAP and with all that chlora=

hydrate. The dr. told us that she needed an operation that had a very high
mortality rate, that she was unlikely to recover from. This can only be
determined, we later discovered, by MRI , CT scan or bronchoscopy. When

,
and because the dr. assured us, (they changed their mind) that it was NOT
pneumonia. We believe that Annie was euthanised. We just can't understand
it. Nobody made an attempt to explain that she was dying of something. We
discovered that her PRISM (Pediatric Risk of Mortality)score was only 4,
which is (or so we understand) a relatively low risk of mortality. Does
anyone have knowledge or experience with BIPAP machines or the meds and
procedures in the critical care? IF anyone could help, we would GREATLY
appreciate it. It would be better to e-mail off-line. I apologize for
beingsuch a downer. I promise to be more upbeat and contributory on my next
submission. I hope you can all understand. Thanks! Barb =3D20
